#022 Once You Embrace This, Your Life Will Change Forever
Moving Towards Abundance
Hey bud,
Have you ever felt like something is always lacking or not enough in your life?
If you’ve ever compared yourself to others, felt envious of what they have, or believed that there isn’t enough to go around then that first question I asked might have resonated with you.
You may or may not know it, but this is what’s known as scarcity mindset.
I’ve personally adopted that mindset a few times in the past (in fact, we all have). And it brought me nothing but a lot of unwanted experiences.
You see, scarcity mindset is experiencing the illusion that there’s not enough to go around. This mindset brings fear, anxiety, and a constant feeling of lack in our lives.
Aren’t you tired of experiencing that in your life? I know I was. The solution is simpler than you think.
And that solution in essence is just the opposite mindset: An abundance mindset (Funny how that works — most solutions to our unwanted experiences are simply the opposite thing).
An abundance mindset will lead you to an abundant life — a life filled with a wealth of positive experiences like:
Financial Freedom
Health & Well-being
Loving and Supportive Relationships
Joy, Happiness, & Fulfillment
A Sense of Having More than Enough in All Aspects
And in this week’s letter, I’ll be sharing with you why experiencing abundance starts with our mindset, what holds us back from creating abundance in our lives, and how to actually cultivate this kind of mindset.
Thoughts Are Things
Our thoughts shape our reality. This is a fact.
This may sound “woo-woo” to some, but truth is our thoughts (especially when charged with emotion) have energy and can manifest into physical reality.
Don’t believe me? I invite you to look around you and take notice of each physical object you see — a water bottle, a table, the chair you are sitting on, the bed you lie down on, the cars people are driving.
All of these things were first a thought in someone’s mind. An idea. When that idea is backed with strong emotion, belief, and action, over time that thought manifests into physical reality.
Let’s bring this concept into how this can lead to you experiencing abundance.
Our mindset has the power to either limit us or expand our possibilities. When we adopt an abundance mindset, we shift our focus from scarcity and lack to abundance and opportunity.
You see, we have something in our brainstem called the Reticular Activating System (RAS) which is a network of neurons that plays a crucial role in helping us focus our attention on what’s important to us while helping us ignore less relevant things.
How does it determine what’s important to us and what isn’t relevant?
Based on what we focus on.
If we focus on what’s lacking in our lives (thereby adopting a scarcity mindset), our RAS thinks that scarcity is what’s important to us, and will show us more signs in the outer world of scarcity and lack — all this while ignoring “less relevant things” like the opposite: abundance.
If we adopt an abundance mindset, our RAS will think that abundance is what’s important to us and will show us more signs and opportunities that will lead us to experiencing more of exactly what we focus on. (I talk more about the RAS and focus in one of my previous letters. Read it here).
This is why adopting an abundance mindset is crucial to you experiencing a life of abundance.
The Illusion of Scarcity & Limiting Beliefs
Many of us have been conditioned to believing this scarcity mindset. It’s like we’re constantly worrying about not having enough.
Let me tell you, it’s not a great place to be in.
Scarcity, however, is often just about our perception.
(And don’t give me the whole “Hurr Durr, what about people who are living in poverty who have nothing? Is it just about THEIR perception as well?” argument. The answer is no. But I’m not talking to them in this letter, I’m talking to YOU. If you’re reading this, you have advantages that most people do not. Stop using other people as an excuse for you not to change your life for the better. It’s keeping you stuck. If you can’t handle that, you are free to read something else.)
See, for many it’s not really about the resources or opportunities being limited in reality. It’s more about how we perceive and believe in the idea of scarcity.
When we have a scarcity mindset, we constantly focus on what we don’t have and we believe that success, wealth, and happiness are scarce. And so, that’s all that we see! (Remember the RAS?)
Now here’s the thing — one of the main obstacles that prevent us from experiencing abundance is actually our own limiting beliefs.
We might have beliefs like these:
“I don’t deserve to be wealthy.”
“I don’t deserve to be happy.”
“Money is hard to come by.”
“This isn’t enough.”
“There isn’t enough to go around.”
Yeah, those deeply ingrained thoughts and beliefs shape our reality and create a barrier to abundance.
These beliefs keep us trapped in a cycle of scarcity and make it challenging to bring abundance into our lives.
But guess what? The first step to breaking free from this grip is to become aware of these limiting beliefs.
The next step in order to change this mindset is to question these beliefs.
“Who told me that belief?”
“What did they know anyway, who were they?”
“What kind of results do they have? Are those results I want as well? If not, I may want to change my beliefs.”
Remember, a belief is just a thought that you continue to think (I talk more about the power of belief systems in the previous letter. You can read it here).
Cultivating an Abundance Mindset
Alright, now that we’re more aware of the problem, let’s talk about 3 practical ideas to solve it by cultivating an abundance mindset:
1. Gratitude
Gratitude is like the magic key that opens the door to abundance.
Really, when we develop a daily gratitude practice, we shift our focus from what’s lacking to what we already have in our lives.
The more grateful we can be with what we already have, the more opportunities we will see and be open to — which will help us receive more of those things in our lives.
As an action step, take a few moments each day to reflect on the blessings you have and express gratitude for them.
This may seem simple, but trust me, it rewires your brain to see abundance in all aspects of your life.
2. Expect Good Things
Have you ever considered the incredible power of expecting good things in your life? It’s remarkable.
And you might be thinking, “Won’t that just set me up for disappointment if I don’t get what I expect?”
It will if you expect disappointment. For you to experience abundance you need to be willing to step into a certain level of delusion and ignore evidence of scarcity in your life.
Those that are delusional enough to think that they can change the world are the ones who do.
You see, there will always be evidence of scarcity, and evidence of abundance in your life. It’s all about which you choose to focus on.
By choosing to focus on one of those things, you automatically choose to ignore the other.
As an action step, take a moment each day to visualize yourself expecting and experiencing positive outcomes.
Imagine abundance, opportunities and success effortlessly flowing into your life.
As you fully immerse yourself in this positive expectation, you align your energy with the frequency of abundance and you will attract it into your reality.
3. Practice Generosity
Generosity is the number one sign that you have embraced an abundance mindset.
Think about it, when you have so much of something, you’d want to start giving the excess away!
By being generous, you are telling your brain that you have more than enough and you attune yourself to the energy of abundance.
If you started to think “If I start giving things away, won’t I lose that thing?” after reading this idea, I’ll call this out already as scarcity mindset. Don’t fall into that trap.
Something ironic happens when you start being generous. More of what you give away comes back to you, multiplied.
Personally, when I started giving away 10% of my monthly income to charity and those in need, I got surprised — My income started to GROW faster over time.
Logically it didn’t really make sense to me at first, but I did well not to question the good that enters my life and just accept it as normal.
As an action step, start by practicing small acts of kindness and generosity — whether it’s donating a small portion of your income to a cause, helping someone in need, or simply offering a listening ear to a friend or family member.
In Conclusion
Embracing an abundance mindset is a powerful shift that can really transform your life.
I invite and challenge you to try out these action steps yourself for 30 days.
Suspend any disbelief until then and watch how your life slowly moves towards abundance.
Always remember, that you deserve that.
