Last Saturday I posted about how problems are a good thing. It got me thinking about the problems I’ve faced in my life and how those problems actually led me on the journey of finding my purpose.

You see, problems are closely related with purpose.

The more you solve your own problems, the closer you get to uncovering your deepest purpose.

How?

That’s what we’ll explore in this edition of The Empowered Entrepreneur

Let’s get into it.

The Problem I had with Women

Back in high school, I had crushes on a number of girls.

(Growing up I studied in an all boys school until grade 6.)

In high school, I got transferred to a co-ed school and, for the first time, was put in an environment where I had girl classmates.

Naturally, I developed a few crushes.

But, I had a problem.

I had no idea how to go about my feelings.

I had no idea how to talk to girls in a way that would attract them romantically TO me.

I had no idea how to court a girl or make my feelings known to her without being awkward.

And so, I graduated high school without having a love life.

When I got to university, I knew I wanted to change that.

I wanted to experience what it’s like to have a girlfriend, but again, the problem I had was that I didn’t know how — and I was painfully aware of that fact.

Solving that Problem

One day, I was scrolling through the internet and I came across an ad by a guy called Joshua Pellicer on how to talk to and attract women.

I watched the video ad and I was convinced that this was my answer to getting a girlfriend.

I remember begging my father to use his credit card to buy Joshua’s material online — but my dad was quite skeptical.

(I used the birthday card and he eventually gave in — it was a $24 product)

After that, I immersed myself in the material.

2 things really stood out to me (which I even remember to this day).

1. I didn’t want to be in a position where I meet my dream woman one day — and have no idea how to attract her.

2. A valuable man is a man who is better today than he was yesterday, and better tomorrow than he is today.

I won’t get into how it taught me the proper body language, to the right mindset when approaching women, or even how it taught me about relationship balance once I did have a girlfriend.

But because of my burning desire to solve that problem, I learned how to talk to women, attract women, and be in relationships with women.

And because I learned how to do all those things, I started to become confident in myself.

Fast forward to today, I’m now happily married to the woman of my dreams.

Had I not solved that problem for myself after graduating high school, I don’t know if I’d be married to Bea today — she might have found me awkward and cringe and might have just “friendzoned” me.

I want to highlight here that solving a “shallow problem” (like not knowing how to attract women) led me to the deeper purpose of experiencing love, acceptance, and happiness in marriage.

Similarly, that’s also what can happen to you once you learn how to solve your own “shallow problems.”

You will be led to finding a deeper purpose which will ultimately lead to a fulfilling life.

In Conclusion

Since then, I’ve experienced other problems in other areas of my life:

• The problem of being financially dependent on my parents

• The problem of not knowing how to sell in business

• The problem of not having direction in life

• The problem of what I can contribute to the family business

• The problem of unhappiness

All of which I’ve been able to solve one by one.

• I learned how to make my own money

• I learned how to succeed in sales

• I learned how to cast a life vision and set goals

• I learned coaching as a skill and how to facilitate leadership development workshops

• I learned how to get myself to states of genuine happiness through gratitude

And solving each of those problems required me to get out of my comfort zone every time.

Right now, the problem I’m solving for myself is not knowing how to build a one-person business online which helps people build confidence and live abundant lives.

I’m solving this problem so that I can achieve financial freedom, location freedom, and time freedom for myself and my wife.

To do that it requires me to live at my edge.

As I do, I start to get closer and closer to finding my purpose.

I realized that by solving a pressing problem in my life, I can get to the next layer of my purpose (like a boss that I had to defeat for each stage in a video game).

As I solve more of my own problems, I find myself go from lesser purpose to a greater purpose.

And one day, I will reach my core — my deepest purpose where my highest voice resides.

That’s when I truly live life on my own terms.

Until then, I continue to create solutions to these problems I now face.

What’s different now vs all those years ago is that I have a system and process that I can rely on to help me create those solutions to my problems.
